Munich wins global project on "One Health"

"One Health" is a holistic, interdisciplinary approach that investigates the relationship between humans, animals, the environment and health. The Center for International Health (CIHLMU) was founded in 2009 by doctors and scientists at the LMU and the University Hospital of LMU Munich.

Over the last 10 years, the CIHLMU has established a worldwide network for health research and education, with a focus on developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The program "Exceed - Higher Education Excellence in Development Cooperation" was announced in a nationwide competition by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The CIHLMU has now won another major project, as the DAAD recently announced.

The overriding goal of the One Health Network is to improve health conditions worldwide. The structural health problems caused by the living environment must be better understood and context-specific solutions must be developed.

CIHLMU Chairperson Prof. Katja Radon: "I am delighted that our many years of work have been recognised. In the future we will work together with veterinarians, social scientists and geoscientists, both from the LMU and from partner universities in nine countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.”
