CIHLMU has officially been established as a Center of the Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich
We are happy to announce that as of May 2018, the CIHLMU Center for International Health has officially been established as a Center of the Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU).
Our story began in 2009, when the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) initiated a competition among German higher education institutions. At that time, 4 professors at LMU who were actively involved in international projects worldwide, decided to join forces for this competition. Fortunately, CIHLMU was selected as one of the fiver winners and was awarded the prize from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This consisted of one million euros per year for a period of five years. At the end of that five year time period, the partners once again joined forces and were able to extend the funding for another five years.
Since the foundation of the center, the aim has been to improve the health condition in low and middle-income countries by promoting medical education and research. To fulfill this mission, we are training the next generation of leaders and health professionals; to achieve this, new innovative curricula are developed with cooperation from our partners while taking into account country-specific conditions. We also support and conduct collaborative research projects, provide consultancy and assistance to politicians, non-government organizations (NGOs), enterprises, and the public, as well as organize scientific events with current topics in the field.
Over the past almost 10 years, CIHLMU has established a PhD Program in Medical Research - International Health and four Master Programs in different medical fields: Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, Master of Science in Community Mental Health, Master of Science in Health Professional Education (MHPE) and a Master of Science in International Health. We have successfully conducted several trainings, summer schools and workshops in Germany and abroad, as well as become a German think tank and network platform in the context of international health, providing the link between the medical faculty of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, the medical staff and researchers of the hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and several international institutions.
We want to share this good news with all partners, students, alumni, tutors and thank everyone who in one way or another has accompanied us until now!
We look forward to many more successful years!
