Bedside Teaching Course at the Medical Faculty in Beira, Mozambique

At the Central Hospital in Beira, Mozambique, bedside teaching is done on the neonatal ward and the general pediatrics ward.

The specific aim is to learn the examination of brain, development, nerves and muscles as it is covered by a (problem focused or problem extended) neurological examination. Within the peer group of medical students 1-2 participants are doing the supervised examination. Every single step is discussed by all students and reflected by the do’s and dont’s. One Module is done in about two hours to allow sufficient time for consolidation. The examination status is written down and communicated to the responsible doctor to add "clinical value" and to reflect the responsibility for clinical decision/diagnosis making.
