Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Under the moderation of Prof. Nguyen Duy Phong, Dept. of Infectious Diseases, the participants gave a short overview on the various activities of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City in the medical curriculum.
Dr. Tran Quang Trung presented an overview on medical education in Viet Nam. Especially the new teaching methods including the skills lab and the OSCE-method were presented. Dr. Vo Thanh Nhan explained thereafter the specific medical skills training of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy which is also supported by the Vietnamese Higher Educational program. Dr. Le Dinh Nguyen presented the cooperation between the Da Nang University, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City and the University of Munich. Lastly, Dr. Dalla Pozza presented briefly the MECUMLMU, the Medical Curriculum in Munich after the revision of 2003.
The participants agreed that new teaching methods play an important role when dealing with a high number of students. Especially the "teach the teacher"-program of the Munich University seems to be attractive for this purpose. The new curriculum development was also cited as a possible alternative for the implementation of the curriculum in Da Nang which has to be done under the assistance of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City. The participants emphasised the organisation of a task force in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City including an IT-specialist responsible for the future cooperation. This is the only way the cooperation over a long distance can be guaranteed.
