MSc Epidemiology at LMU
The Master of Science Epidemiology offers students the chance to learn how to analyze different problems in health-related fields and to plan, execute, and interpret studies. They learn about the relationships between diseases and the risk factors that lead to ill health as well as how to diagnose diseases, to apply therapeutic approaches, and to determine the prognostic value and the influence of therapeutics on patient quality of life. Students also study the relationship between diseases, an individual’s genetic predisposition, and influential environmental factors.
What is Epidemiology?
Epidemiology examines which factors make an individual or an entire population sick and which maintain their health. With the help of epidemiologic knowledge, many health policy measures have been implemented. With changing life conditions, new health risks are appearing and pushing the health spectrum of society into more chronic and partially preventable illnesses. Along with the methodological and analytic knowledge that is presented in the master of science program, current topics in public health research and education will be offered that reflect the various possibilities of further specialization. A focus in Epidemiology, Clinical Epi, Genetic Epi, Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology will be accommodated.
