The CIHLMU Center for International Health at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, Germany, is pleased to announce a symposium on “Fighting the Scourge of TB/HIV Co-Infection. Are Vaccine and Novel Diagnostics the Solution?”
The fight against AIDS must take into consideration a comprehensive approach: this includes not only strategies to neutralize HIV, nor only prevention, but also the cure of co-infections and the challenges of diagnosis. Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading co-infection in HIV settings causing 50% of all AIDS deaths globally. Both infections cause devastation on the host immune response and require life /or long treatment.
The aim of the symposium is to depict the state of the art and to identify new promising prospects of how we can reach an AIDS cure by targeting both HIV and opportunistic diseases.
The symposium will offer the opportunity to create a dialogue among major world experts in different fields of research, from vaccine to diagnostic tools, contributing to the development of a broad approach that includes prevention, early treatment and therapeutic strategies.
PhD students in International Health are committed differently in the fight against HIV, TB and other co-infections, constituting a network of groups with complimentary research interests: from immunology to virology, from vaccine development to improvement of diagnostic tools.
The symposium will be held in English.
CIHLMU has applied for 8 credit points for this event from the Bavarian Medical Association.
